Join us to learn the art of block printing and create your own textile and paper goods! This introductory workshop will introduce students to the history of block printing and the perspective of the craft, with styles that have emerged throughout history. Participants will create and design a simple pattern that they will carve onto a stamp block, and explore printing on both paper and fabric. All materials, tools and instructions will be provided including items to print on: 11” X 15” water colour paper and a 10” x 10” sheet of 100% cotton fabric to create a unique tapestry. Students are also welcome to bring any textiles they wish to print on. During the workshop we will cover the different styles that have emerged such as repeat and single motif creation. We will also discuss more contemporary and experimental forms of block print.

Her art practice consists of textiles, installations and printmaking. Through the combination of these processes, Ghalayini plays with the material exploration of texture and form. Her work focuses on personal identity through addressing emotions, healing, memories and lived experiences. When she creates she reminds herself of the feeling of freedom, a sense of place, nature, and the ethereal form.
